Am I really going to be 50 in 50 days?

Yes, I, am going to be 50 in 50 days! This blog starts today, Saturday February 20th and ends on my 50th birthday, Saturday April 9, 2016!

I wanted to celebrate this milestone birthday in a special way and couldn't think of a better way than writing every day for 50 days. I have always loved writing, but between the procrastination, the time it takes me to think and write and worrying about what the reader will think, I either don't start or give up part way! "50 in 50 days" is my gift to me, to prove to myself that I can do it!

I have some ideas of what I'd like to write about, but no plan about what it will end up looking like. I am scared about living up to the daily commitment but excited that I am finally doing this.

Now the part about turning 50!

50 is half a century! How can it be here already? It always seemed such a long way away, a number far off in the distance. A number to associate with my grandparents and then my parents... but me?

Well that number is now squarely around the corner! If I blink I might miss the next 50 days and I don't want to do that. I want to look over the last 50 years of my life and know that my being here has been worth it. I want to smile and remember the good times, shed a tear for the sad times and 'laugh till I pee' for those moments that there may not even be words for!

I am ready to embrace 50 over the next 50 days!

Thank you for sharing a part of my life's journey with me!

    1. Thanks Faiza! You and your blog, http://itsgonnabealovelyday.blogspot.ca/ are one of my inspirations for writing this blog. I've been thinking about it for a while, but just told Karim yesterday that I needed his help to start a blog before the end of the day. Then the decision about what to call it and to ensure that the first blog post got written before midnight! Now to worry about what to write about every day and what pictures to upload. I have to tell you after Day 1, it's very exciting - you should have seen me last night when the blog went live!! We'll see what Day 2, 3, 4, 5 and the rest bring - especially after a long day's work and when I'm crazy busy planning for our Park People Summit and then what happens when we're in Cuba! But I am so looking forward to this challenge and this 50 day journey! Thank you for your kind words and being the inspiration!

    1. Thanks Rashida! I read your Golden Jubilee diaries last night just before I wrote the first blog post and it was so lovely going through them. I'm so glad you have those memories from those almost two wonderful years (July 2007-Dec 2008)! You do realize you have to do Diamond Jubilee ones next year?

    1. Thanks Shireen! Although we don't live in the same country, meeting you at family weddings is always such fun - let's see how many I can remember - ours - Toronto (2000), Ashif & Yasmin's - Toronto (2001), Karima & Yasien's - Toronto (2003), Your brother's - UK (2009), Faiza & Earvin's - Toronto (2014), Jamila and Nijhad - Marbella (2015). Did I get it right? Which ones did I miss?
